Global Warming Facts - What You Need To Know

Understanding the global warming facts will help to you realize why it has become such an important and controversial issue in our world today. Research conducted in previous years on global warming is now being questioned and reevaluated by scientists. It seems that the more we research global warming, the more we begin to realize how little we can actually know about it. The following are just a few of the current issues we face in regard to global warming.

Global warming facts show that rising temperatures are having a negative impact on Arctic ice. The ice from this area of the world, serves as nature's “air conditioner” for much of the planet. These large ice packs constantly rotating and feed cooling winds that sweep down to lower areas.  As the ice pack begins to deplete, it loses its ability to cool the planet and temperatures will increase even more.

It is only makes sense that with this increase in temperature, the ice will slowly melt into water. Since 1978, the Arctic ice pack has shrunk by about 9% every decade. This may not seem alarming, but over an extended period of time the effect will be enormous . If the ice pack continues thinning by 9% every decade, it will have disappeared completely by next century. If this were to take place, it would be catastrophic for all living beings.

Global warming facts are starting to show that virtually everything and everyone is at risk of being seriously effected by climate change. Animals used to living in colder regions of the world may soon find their homes too warm for them.  Some animals may see this as a result of a climate change or from sever weather caused by global warming.

The ocean conveyer belt, or thermohaline circulation, is the global circulation pattern of the oceans. This circulation pattern disperses tropical heat throughout the world. It serves to essentially regulate temperatures across the globe. Global warming can significantly alter this natural process, causing serious climate changes. Another major change would be the increased intensity of hurricanes and storm surges. Global warming facts prove to us that its threat is very real and something we cannot ignore.

Scientists are discovering new global warming facts every single day. This information plays a huge part in understanding our own contributions to global warming, and identifying what we can do to help.  The key to ensuring that our environment does not continue to deplete is through education. Everyone needs to be informed on the issue, so they know the appropriate steps to take in their own lives. Society as a whole needs to increase its awareness of the global warming facts before proactive prevention solutions can be put into place.

Soot reduction 'could help to stop global warming' (Independent)

Sun, 04 Jan 2009 00:34:44 GMT

Governments could slow global warming dramatically, and buy time to avert disastrous climate change, by slashing emissions of one of humanity's most familiar pollutants – soot – according to Nasa scientists. A study by the space agency shows that cutting down on the pollutant, which has so far been largely ignored by climate scientists, can have an immediate cooling effect – and prevent ...

The Think Tank Index (Foreign Policy Magazine)

It’s no accident that Barack Obama plucked his transition chief from a think tank. The world’s idea factories are charged with brainstorming solutions to everything from global warming to Wall Street’s implosion to the war on terror.
