Global warming is something that virtually everyone has heard of, but very few can actually define it. In other words, people are familiar with the term Global Warming and understand that the term refers to a situation the earth is experiencing increased temperatures epartly as a result of human action.

The controversy surrounding the issue is due to the fact that the issue has been politicized by parties on both sides of the belief coin; one side says global warming is strictly a theory, while the other side believes it to be empirical fact. Those on both sides of the fence who politicize the issue make
seeing the legitimacy or illegitimacy of the issue in an unclouded
manner difficult.

The textbook definition of global warming is the following: a slow increase in the atmosphere of the lower earth's temperature. This rise in temperature may result from increased greenhouse gas production, which has been steadily increasing since the dawn of the industrial revolution.

Essentially, there is an increase in shortwave light emanating from the sun which is able to reach earth's atmosphere with less restriction. The impact that this can have on the earth has the potential to effect us very significantly. This is why people around the world have serious concerns about global warming and rightfully so.

It is highly advisable to keep an open mind on the issue and view the information with an unclouded mind. It would be wise to try not to be influenced by those who have politicized the issue. In order to do this, you must pay attention to unbiased, empirical data as opposed to information from those who have not truly examined or studied the issue.

This is often easier said than done because few people actually have a scientific background and much of the existing global warming data is not easily understood by those unfamiliar with the scientific aspects of the issue. Hence, it would make the most sense to invest significant time studying the subject of global warming before making a decision either way on this important topic.

Is global warming forcing Bigfoot to move north? (Scientific American)

Wed, 19 Nov 2008 01:26:18 GMT

If you were a nine-foot tall animal covered in dense fur – say, Bigfoot – you would  probably seek cooler climes if temps began inching up. That’s the hypothesis one Queens College biologist posed to me last night – without, I should note, acknowledging that such an animal exists at all. [More]
